Summer is having its last hurrah with a few 35 degree days.
Soon we will be looking for an order of wood for the fireplace.
We have moved house for the fourth time (talk to me about minimalism!) and are now situated in the beautiful Middlebrook Valley near Scone.
A farm cottage - newly painted, fresh carpets and slowly becoming home.
The boxes and bags slowly become distributed into their rightful places.
We have a creek running across our driveway. It flows fast but not enough to keep us from work and school.
Each day I walk down to it and sit on the bank and think how grateful I am to be there.
There is a serenity of the bush I have missed.
Dawn birdsong.
Cattle lazily grazing outside the perimeter of the house yard.
The sky, so expansive and clear. Reverently watching the moon on its evening path.
I feel like I am home.
Consequently, there has not been a lot of plant growing but a lot of mental growth.
The community garden has taken a step back in priority but the pumpkins we planted in spring have flourished and there will be a reasonable crop.
There is a lot of greenery with tendrils threatening to climb over the fence to the golf club carpark and beyond.
We’re a bit like plants don’t you think?
Sometimes you need to be planted somewhere that forces you to adapt and modify to suit your conditions.
And then you really begin to thrive.
I’ve taken a full time job - (a slight shock to the system after 23 years of mumming, part time jobs, running my own businesses, farming), which is a necessity as a provider for my family.
Being planted somewhere you don’t necessarily want to be planted refocuses the mind on what it really wants.
Yesterday someone I knew said I was like a Chameleon, constantly changing and adapting to fit in where I was.
I guess I am.
But I still believe in what I have always believed in.
That our food systems have the capacity to heal our earth.
There is a lot going on at the moment in the world.
It’s easy to become overwhelmed.
But there is so much hope too.
Caring for the environment - I’m hopeful for the future. I’m excited for where we are going.
What about you? What are you excited about?
SOIL SISTER
The book I wrote (you can purchase it here…) to provide a clear communication of regenerative farming is growing in popularity right around the world. We received this lovely review online from USA.
The book has opened up so many conversations with people I meet and opened doors to places I never imagined I would appear:
Gulfood, Dubai;
Groundswell, UK;
Global Citizen NOW, Melbourne
Grounded, Tasmania
Where am I going to be ?
I’m running a social media workshop for a local company soon. Let me know if you would like to host one at your own organisation.
I’m also available for speaking engagements. You can book here…
